Tidy Up Your Keywords and Drive Some Fresh Traffic
Written by Adam Shore, Account Director - A Couple of Chicks e-Marketing on April 9, 2008

Yes, it is that time of year again! Winter is almost over and everyone is gearing up for the Spring. That means cleaning out the garage, tending to the lawn and of course refreshing your keywords. Yes that's right! It is a known fact that as the seasons change and Search Engines evolve, so does our Search Behavior. What is Search Behavior? It is simply the why, how and what the average user is searching for.

This means it is time to examine your keywords and make sure that they still contain the same search volume they once did, or if there are new terms that are being searched for that you may not be aware of.

The best method for determining how relevant your keywords are is with a thorough analytics review, as well as by researching your most highly searched keywords. Remember to consider that keywords can change with the season - with consumer search patterns changing based on time of year, new products, and events.

Here are a few quick tips on some keyword research tools that can help you determine what users are searching for, some which are free and some that are not. A great free tool is SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/. It is easy to understand and provides some quality results, but remember you pay for what you get. Wordtracker.com is a great tool as well, but comes at a price. There are many tools out there to try and most come with free trial, so don't be afraid to shop around.

This Spring clean up reminder has been put together by Adam Shore, A Couple of Chicks resident search engine optimization expert and Account Director. We hope these tips will help you to take a fresh look at your keywords as a critical part of your web strategy.
